Permanent Soft Liner
A permanent soft liner is a resilient “rubbery” liner
placed inside a new or relined denture. The liner is processed right
into the denture. You cannot remove it, and only your denturist
can make adjustments to it. Ideally, the liner will last about two
years before replacement is necessary.
Permanent soft liners provide a cushion for your tissues against
the hard acrylic of the dentures. The cushion absorbs some of the
pressure and stress when you eat. This is particularly helpful if
you have a flat ridge (usually with the lower denture).
A soft liner may also be used if your ridge is full, but has an
overhang or concave profile. The soft liner is able to move out
the way and snap back into position, locking the denture in place.
A hard acrylic denture cannot do this.
If you are interested in having a permanent soft liner, consult
your denturist and ask to see one before it is placed in your denture. |
